Speirs Major explores how other species see the world

October 23, 2025

(UK) – After last year’s mesmerising Intra-Spectrum by light artist Frankie Boyle, LiGHT is once again set to captivate audiences with another immersive installation. This time, by renowned lighting design studio Speirs Major Light Architecture, who, in collaboration with Italian manufacturer formalighting, will unveil an immersive new experience titled Re:Vision.

Exploring the question How do other species see the world?”, lighting designers Benz Roos and Kit Thavasaleen invite visitors to step into a world of light shaped by the visual experiences of other life forms. The installation looks at how colour, light, and perception differ across species – and how humans might rethink the role of lighting design beyond our own needs.

By researching the spectral profiles of selected animals, the team has created environments illuminated only by the colours those species can see. Interactive elements, including Ishihara colour blindness charts, shift under changing light to reveal how perception transforms from one being to another.

Partnering with formalighting, the designers have used advanced motorised lighting equipment to deliver this sensory experience in innovative ways.

Re:Vision promises to be a thought-provoking highlight of LiGHT 2025 – one that encourages visitors to look, quite literally, through different eyes.

As the designers note, quoting philosopher Thomas Nagel: “What is it like to be a bat? We can never truly experience the world as another creature does. But with Re:Vision, we might just catch a glimpse.
