CDH London Design Festival launch

(UK) - Cameron Design House and Geronimo stage immersive light installation as part of LDF 2018.

Revealed as part of Shoreditch Design Triangle, Cameron Design House’s 2018 launch at London Design Festival took centre stage with an immersive lighting installation created in collaboration with LA artist Geronimo.

A match made in design heaven, the installation revealed a series of Cameron Design House’s signature Helmi chandeliers, interspersed amongst a vast balloon sculpture from Geronimo that filled the exhibition space with hundreds of latex balloons.

Exploring the contrasting themes of temporary versus timeless and organic versus engineered, the multi-sensory collaboration created an engaging visual experience exploring the relationship between light, latex and luxury.

Transforming the Old Truman Brewery with a shared vision of vivid emerald green, the CDH x Geronimo installation combined the meticulous craftsmanship of Cameron Design House’s handblown glass Helmi chandelier with Geronimo’s innovative artistry to create a single explosion of colour and creativity, whilst an adjoining room decorated in vibrant pink showcased the elegant branching frame of the Haara pendant.

"London Design Festival 2018 has been an iconic moment for us," said Ian Cameron, Creative Director of Cameron Design House. "The CDH x Geronimo installation showcasing our Helmi chandeliers immersed around Geronimo's magical balloons created an enchanting green world for LDF! Thank you to everyone that came along and made it such a special moment for Cameron Design House."

Yellow Goat Design - Lift Off

Each of these is a handcrafted glass bird, suspended in flight at the point of lift off. A perfect moment of flight captured in a single artistic burst. Captive to time and frozen in space, the multi-hued, cast glass flock levitates perfectly above a scene, illuminated by LED downlights.

The Department Store, UK

Squire and Partners, a 220 strong architectural design practice, had outgrown its base in Kings Cross and wanted to make a wholesale shift from the brightly lit workspace environment, to one that injected a different energy into the new HQ; a dilapidated Edwardian department store in Brixton. A delicate balance was sought between the needs of people, the ambiance and luxury craftsmanship.

Studio Fractal applied a multi-faceted philosophy to the lighting, fulfilling technical and sustainable needs, while utilising skilled craftsmanship and creating aesthetic appeal. The design team appreciated that Squire and Partners would detail their environment to perfection; it is what they do. So their role as lighting designer was to complement and enhance those intense levels of precision.

As you walk through the re-purposed building with its original parquet flooring, high ceilings and striking wall art left by recent inhabitants, you are gently guided by fluted glass pendants - selected for their period style. These bespoke globes (supplied by Original BTC) are used throughout the interiors in the form of pendant, wall and freestanding arrangements. Limited edition, handblown glass pendants from Czech glass studio Lasvit, hang above the bespoke ‘haberdashery’ style reception desk.

A pallet of brass and black materials extrapolated from the surrounding architectural materials, informed the aesthetics of the Flos pendant system developed with Atrium. Studio Fractal adapted this to provide ambient and accent lighting throughout workstations, meeting rooms, event spaces, the café and terrace bar – echoing the original department store lighting approach while providing unobtrusive enhancement of building, materials and task areas. A final layer of low profile LED modules integrated into suspended shelving, provide additional task lighting, which staff can adjust to suit their individual needs and preferences.

The Department Store, with its multifarious finishes, expertly curated bespoke furnishings and undulating levels of light, satisfy the human compulsion for unique, stimulating surroundings. It sets the standard for future office environments; luxurious and exquisitely crafted, with people and creativity at the heart.

Plumen 001 goes LED

(UK) - Plumen launches new 001 LED lamp, raising the bar in contemporary design.

The 001 LED gives an exceptional light quality, is even more efficient, yet retains the iconic 001 bulb shape, thanks to new technology devised by Plumen. The 001 LED unites form, function, and innovation; the perfect recipe for beautiful lighting.

The 001 LED has been engineered in the UK by Plumen to create a high-performance product in every regard. A new patented LED construction replaces the previous compact fluorescent technology, meaning greater control, performance and longevity. The double-looped form designed by Plumen and Samuel Wilkinson remains, making it instantly recognisable. The lamp is now completely dimmable and has a lifespan of over 20,000 hours, equating to almost 20 years of average use. It is also available in three colour temperatures; super-warm, warm and cool, offering further flexibility.

The new inner-workings of the Plumen 001 LED allow for a sleeker form factor, which in turn means the lamp sits elegantly in many more fittings and shades. Materially it is all change; the Plumen 001 has a ceramic housing, creating a more premium finish that is also more environmentally responsible, while the LED tubes have a matt, bone-like finish. Neither aluminium nor mercury are used, and the lamp can be fully dissembled, ensuring it is 100% recyclable.

Plumen pioneered the world’s first energy efficient designer lamp with the original 001. It quickly became an icon of forward-thinking and problem-solving design after its 2010 launch. The Design Museum (London), Cooper Hewitt and MoMA (New York) hold the original 001 in their permanent collections, a testament to its place in the contemporary design canon. Major international awards followed, and the Plumen name became synonymous with great design. The new 001 LED is a continuation of Plumen’s passion for pioneering sustainable design for everyday use.

Co-founder & Creative Director Nicolas Roope said: “Our goal is for sustainable design to be a natural choice and our light bulbs aim to inspire that change. We are proud of the huge effort that has gone into bringing the 001 LED to market. Our original 001 is a tough act to follow, but we believe this reincarnated 001 LED will become a new classic, and a sound choice for anyone who enjoys beautiful design that doesn’t cost the earth.”

The Plumen 001 LED is on sale today from major retailers at £49 RRP. Orders are being taken for UK and European shipping at plumen.com
