UK artist presents light installation at INDEX

April 19, 2017

(UAE) – Artist Debi Keable will present her latest work ‘A Walk in The Trees’ at this year’s INDEX show in Dubai.

The installation previously formed part of the Hull Freedom Festival in the UK, which saw the opening ceremony ‘The Long Walk to Freedom’ light trail bring together installations by local artists.

The city of Hull is the UK’s City of Culture 2017 and has been transformed by a constant series of events, artworks, celebrations and networking with cities around the world. Hull was the birthplace and home of William Wilberforce, the politician responsible for the abolition of slavery in the UK 210 years ago and was also honoured by a visit from Nelson Mandela.

All inspired by Nelson Mandela, The Long Walk to Freedom light trail saw his greatest moments and achievements reimagined as installations of light, colour and sound along the cobbles of Hull’s Old Town.

Keable’s installation was created with the help of local children, using phosphorous paint and UV light and is inspired by Mandela’s love of walking among trees.
