Zaha Hadid nominated for Design Europa Award

November 8, 2016

(Italy) – Slamp’s Aria by Zaha Hadid has been nominated for a Design Europa Award.

Managed by EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), Design Europa Awards acknowledge design excellence amongst Registered Community Design holders. Slamp’s Aria, designed by the late Zaha Hadid, is one of the contenders for the Small and Emerging Companies Award, and has been selected thanks to its flexible marriage of artisan processes and technologies.

Aria Gold is made of 50 metalised polycarbonate layers, which radiate around a central LED source. Each of the chandelier’s 50 arms is different, requiring each piece to be constructed by hand.

Slamp is one of four Italian companies to be chosen as finalists; Alessi and Ducati for the Industry category, and Caimi Brevetti along with Slamp for the category of Small or Emerging Companies. The winners will be announced on November 30, 2016 in Milan.

EUIPO’s executive director Antonio Campinos said: “All our finalists, be they large companies or very small enterprises, show the power of design brought to the marketplace with the protection of the Registered Community Design, and the effects design can have at an economic, social and aesthetic level.”
