Makhno Studio will work for cryptocurrency

(Ukraine) - Design company Makhno Studio announces it will work for cryptocurrency.

From April 2021, the studio of Ukrainian design, architecture, and ceramics Makhno will accept payment for its services and goods in cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, Smart Chain, and Polkadot.

Payment will be made at the dollar exchange rate, where there is a price for cryptocurrency and a price in dollars for goods and services. According to the founder of the studio, this decision was made because the crypto market is developing very actively, and the main principle of Makhno Studio is constant development and search for new opportunities.

“The principle of operation of the digital camera was invented by a Kodak employee. But he was not allowed to implement the plan — it would destroy the film business. And when I say that my company is 18 years old, I am both proud and scared at the same time. I do not want to be one of those who were afraid of change and derailed. Progress does not stop, the choice is yours. I strongly believe in the cryptocurrency market, in crypto art, and I am sure that a significant share of future creativity and finance is digital. This direction inspires me a lot”, says Serhii Makhno.

Schonbek - Crystal Empire

Crystal Empire Rustic leads with a bold structure that is evident across the line’s three new pendants: six-light (CY1006N), eight-light (CY1008N), and ten-light (CY1010N). Through the application of thoughtful details, such as full-grain leather sourced from the Appalachian region and Bohemian Crystal accents, the fixtures convey the essence of the Rustic Collection’s characteristic pairing of timeless grace and raw beauty.

“With the use of locally-sourced leather, The Crystal Empire Rustic line serves as an extraordinary example of Schonbek’s ability to seamlessly combine various materials and textures to create eye-catching masterpieces perfect for today’s dynamic spaces,” comments Petra Oberhauser, Commercial Director, Schonbek. “Whether finished with black or white leather, the fixtures provide an elevated means for achieving a refined rustic aesthetic.”

Each fixture offers an elegant open teardrop shape constructed of precision-cut, meticulously stitched leather. All three pendants are furnished with candle-slips nestled onto metallic silver backplates drawn together through diligently crafted beams that connect to the fixtures’ centre.

An unexpected but brilliant compilation of materials, Bohemian Crystal accents bring sparkle to the base of each fixture’s lighting tube and a single large hand-cut crystal pendant is suspended in the centre to create a stunning focal point. With no visible hardware, the flat-back crystal creates a simple, yet elegant balance. The Crystal Empire Rustic fixtures are available in White Pass Leather with white internal metal arms and Grizzly Black Leather with black internal metal arms and finished with Clear Heritage Crystal.

Harris & Harris - Chalford

From sustainable designers, Harris & Harris is the Chalford Family of decorative lamps.

A low-impact lighting family with 1960s and 70s Italian influences, featuring terracotta and opal glass, the Chalford pieces are bold graphical shapes influenced by the Italian industrial designers Vico Magistretti, Joe Colombo and Achille Castiglioni.

The lights are named after a small village in the Cotswolds, close to where Harris & Harris founder Alexander Harris grew up. The family comprises two sizes of table light wall light and pendant for both residential and commercial settings.

Handmade to order in England, the group of lights feature bases made from environmentally friendly slip-cast terracotta with white glaze ombre effect. Bomma releases Stellar Dust

(Czech Republic) - Bomma unveils Stellar Dust, its newest decorative lighting installation.

This unique constellation is created from 727 mouth-blown crystal droplets, hanging individually from the ceiling. Each has its own lighting source that is integral to the two cosmic waves.

These hand-crafted droplets are complemented by 2476 crystal components forming the organic shape of the installation. Optical illusions and the remarkable effects of these crystal objects perfectly juxtapose the regular architectural structures of the building.

Václav Mlynář, Art Director of Bomma and a designer for the deFORM studio, describes the collaboration of all participants: “In this project, I very much enjoyed the perfect function of the collaboration between architects, designers and production. The architects came up with the initial concepts and the overall shape of the installation, focused as we were on the individual components and lights, designing them in minute detail. Finally, we completed its development and produced it together with Bomma."

LZF's newest edition, Big Bird

(Spain) - Big Bird is the latest addition to LZF’s family of life-size lamps, and encapsulates the celebrated Spanish lighting brand’s penchant for dreaming big.

Hovering hummingbird-like, with a fine wooden plumage and hanging globe, Big Bird is an accomplished feat of wood craftsmanship, and a remarkable contemporary sculpture.

Created for LZF by the artist Isidro Ferrer, Big Bird is made in collaboration with master artisan Manolo Martin. The lamp is built with a traditional craft technique used by Fallas artisans, called vareta. Manolo Martin describes this technique: "Vareta is woodcarving and consists of reproducing a volume in wood. To achieve the form, the element is reproduced by using sections of it, called dogas, and the “skin” is shaped by means of fine woods, called varetas."

In Big Bird, there is a clear emphasis on the collaboration between design and craftsmanship. Design adds value to the lamp, while craftsmanship ensures it is unique and well-made. Martin has worked with LZF for many years and observes: "together, design and craftsmanship offer an alternative to the tedium of mass production. I am convinced there are customers who continue to appreciate this differentiation."

Big Bird follows in the footsteps of the life-size Walking Fish and Smelly Fant, both created by Ferrer. Ferrer points out that LZF’s co-founders, Mariví Calvo and Sandro Tothill, are responsible for this "gigantization". He explains: ’Mariví and Sandro have a unique spatial and scenographic vision. To create Big Bird, I went outside of my natural scale. Thanks to the skill and knowledge of Manolo Martín, the lamp became a reality.’

Big Bird is available in two versions, horizontal and vertical, and adds to a family of lamps ideally suited to the contract market.
